UAE’s autonomous vehicle's first stage trial completed successfully
Dubai South and Evocargo signed a MoU in 2022 with the goal of transforming 25% of the emirate's transportation sector into autonomous operations.
Dubai: Dubai South and Evocargo have completed the first stage of the UAE's autonomous electric vehicle trials. This is a significant milestone for the UAE's goal of establishing itself as a leader in autonomous vehicle technology and sustainable logistics solutions.
This collaboration stems from a memorandum of understanding signed in December 2022, aligning with the UAE's vision of establishing Dubai as a global logistics powerhouse and building a sustainable future.
The successful trials are a significant step towards Dubai's long-term goal of transforming 25% of the emirate's total transportation into autonomous operations by 2030.
Here's a breakdown of what transpired:
Testing the Evocargo N1
The trials took place within a closed area of the Dubai South Logistics District.
The trial was used to evaluate the vehicle's hardware, software, and overall reliability in a simulated mixed-traffic environment. The N1's ability to detect objects, prevent accidents, and handle emergency stops was also assessed in addition to the truck's autopilot system for various maneuvers like parking, reversing, turning, and reverse turning.
The functionality of the control center, responsible for managing routes, remote monitoring, and control, was also assessed.
Trials conclude with positive results
The trials were a resounding success! Evocargo has prepared a comprehensive report detailing the results from both stages of the trials. The second stage involved the N1 platform carrying out freight transportation tasks along a designated route, further demonstrating its capabilities.
Industry leaders celebrate a momentous achievement
Both parties involved are understandably enthusiastic about the results. Mohsen Ahmad, CEO of the Logistics District - Dubai South, emphasizes the project's importance. He believes autonomous vehicles will revolutionize the logistics industry, boosting efficiency and reducing the carbon footprint.
